 Did you know that a  hummingbird's brain is 4.2% of its body weight, the largest proportion in the bird kingdom?
Hummingbirds can see ultraviolet light,  and can hear very well but have no sense of smell at all. 
They are the tiniest birds in the world.

A hummingbird's heart beats up to 1,260 times per minute ,
 but when in torpor, to conserve energy- it can drop to as little as 50 beats per minute. 
Also, their flight muscles are thirty percent of their  weight.

Hummingbirds can live for more than 10 years  and they need to eat  about  8 times per hour. 
There are more than 300 species of Hummingbirds, most fo which come from South America. 
Hummingbirds often return to the place where they were born to nest and raise their young. 
Ruby Throated Hummingbirds travel as far as 500 miles across the Gulf of Mexico to breed, 
which takes them about 20 hours. Some hummingbirds travel as far as 2000 miles during their migrations.  
That is why we always put out lots of feed for the migrating and nesting hummingbirds 
who travel through our yard on their incredible journeys.
